I never thought I would ever be considering this but I am in a special situation. When I leave the house and come home after dark I am exposed for about 50 yards from my parking place to my front door. To boot it black as pitch out here and I am thinking of buying a very cheap 9 mil just to keep in the truck to carry from the truck to the house on late nights I come home.

So when I mean cheap I mean inexpensive. I have nice handguns and I am squirting another this Friday but it's much to nice to be clunking around in the truck. Which brings me to my subject at hand. What is the least expensive handgun I can purchase that will be reliable but not break the bank. I am not a big Glock fan but I have looked at some of the clones at PSA. 300 or 400 looks like might be something I wouldn't mind rumbling around the truck. The chances of using it are low but not out of the realm of possiblity.

What options do you guys recommend for safety walking to and fro the truck after the sun goes down that won't be likely to kill me because it won't work when it needs to but affordable enough that I won't mind it getting it marked up in the truck. Any recommendations out there?

I would suggest a revolver.
Reason being is they are much more reliable in the situations you have described. It would take more abuse and grit, etc., than a semi auto and still remain reliable. I love my semi auto Colts, etc., but carry a revolver 90% of the time.
Just my opinion tho.
Good luck in whatever you decide ! :)

BRG if you can find one. Full sized Xd clone that shoots great. I got one to test fire reloads through instead of one of my nicer guns. I think I paid just over $200 for mine and actually like it better than a Springfield Xd.
279 sounds like exactly what I am looking for. Can't complain about the price that's for sure. LOL

Carry it back and to. And use what you have, that's the cheapest way and have a good weapon. Glock is a good weapon though. Not really a fan, but I've used one extensively
I feel the same about them but you can't argue with their efficacy. But I think I'll take a look around for a good used revolver. I'm sure the pawn shops are eat up with them around here so I can stop in and look around when I pass one. Plus you know how the Pawn brokers are they take advantage of somebody in a situation and then Jack the price up. That should leave a lot of room for negotiation.

I've got an old KelTec P11 that I bought for a car/truck gun many years ago. Horrible trigger pull, but has always gone bang when required. Not a great monetary loss if stolen.
Discontinued now, but probably a few lying around unloved in pawn shops.
9mm, DAO, 10 or 12 round mags.
