Cobb School Imitates Sandy Hook Door Locks

Well at least they're trying. If someone really wants in they'll cut a hole in the roof or drive a truck through the doors. Not enough money to guard against everything and it's sad that we have to try.

probably not the strongest deterent or best use of tax dollars but its better than them going after gun rights. an armed guard or two seems more effective than a buzzer

It's a system that requires scrutiny and protective measures if employed should serve their intent, rather than make most everyone feel good that they have done something.

True that a committed person can overcome many security counter measures especially if they are poorly conceived. This is not breaking new ground or is it rocket science. Deterrents are hurdles that at worse slow down a threat until the security team can effectively react.

If that response is calling 911 and waiting then you best damn sure make sure that your measures give you more than 20 minutes, the response time at Sandy Hook.

How long did glass delay the threat at Sand Hook? This system being touted as "making it safer" honestly only impacts peeved parents, students or staff that pose no serious threat. Feeling safer and actually being safer are two separate states of being and we would all do well to understand the two. "Feeling safe" has been the avenue of approach to help create one of the problems that we currently are enduring "Gun Free Zones" that really aren't, that create large body counts that become effective tools to promote further gun control.

If you are a parent from one of these schools you/your community should ask hard questions on the effectiveness of their plan. Your child's safety demands it or not and continue to "feel safer" since something was done.

An effective plan will delay a real threat until those who are designated first responders can react using the minimum force necessary up to and including lethal force in order to neutralize the threat.

Solid poles blocking vehicles from crashing the doors, steel-concrete rather that simple glass, ballistic glass barriers where required, pass through metal detectors in a quarantine area, 3 properly trained personnel in non-lethal and lethal force (minimum three to one tactical consideration). A good communication system is required as well. An effective security plan that is trained and rehearsed is the only logical counter measures that would in general secure success. Otherwise remain blissfully ignorant while "feeling safe".

One of my daughters' schools here in Douglasville just added this. It may not be a deterrent in any real sense but there was nothing at all until now, you could just walk right in.
