What do you think about shellac over the tung oil?

Won't work

Shellac is alcohol based, it will take off the tung oil, and you will end up with a very mottled finish. You can use shellac as a sealer and put tung oil over it.

I read that wrong. Thought he meant over tung oil as in opposed to.

Tung oil is all you need, it will prevent staining and watermarks. Tung oil is the only finish on our pine floor,(14yrs) even in the kitchen. If it gets worn, just wipe some more on.

One thing I learned the hard way is to alternate the end grain. If you look at the ring pattern on the ends, they should be opposite of each other. If not, the top will warp up or down due to the tendency of the wood fibers to be curved.
