COLD WEATHER “minimum kit”

I slept outside in 28 degrees when I was 10 years old, and survived just fine; I even earned an award patch. That was at military school in Virginia in 1974. Schools couldn't do that today--probably get sued. We pitched 2-man army tents from WW2 on the ground of a pine woods area, with just a layer of canvas on the ground. WW2 era sleeping bags and no fleece pajamas or sweatsuits. Just t-shirts and underwear, no socks--that was all part of the "manning-up". No heaters, either, just a bonfire in the middle of camp. Breakfast was fried eggs & bacon and toast--all done over the fire.
