Colt Mark IV 80's Series Officer's ACP

Recently traded for this gun. A previous owner at some point put the weapon in a vice causing printing in the finish. Had a gunsmith look at it and he said it wasn't into the medal. Any ideas on how to get the printing from the vice out? Gunsmith wanted to charge me $300.

If "it wasn't into the metal" I assume it's a painted gun? Glass or oxide blast...re-coat. If it's a blued or stainless gun, maybe flitz and renaissance wax...
