New Leader 9 has learned a 20 year old Zikarious Jaquan Flint from Columbus, Ga. was shot and killed this afternoon by a CSU police officer, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

No alerts were sent to the studetns when this officer involved shooting had occured. University police chief Drew said alerts are only sent when there is threat on campus property. However, the officers arrived tot he scene only three minutes after they received a call; since no threats were detected, no alerts were sent out.

No officers were hurt.

This story makes no sense. The suspect was unloading but yet putting a bullet in the gun when officers were approaching. Huh?
Foot chase, shots "went" off?

From the article; "CSU Police Chief Rus Drew said the call came in at 2:35 p.m, and officers arrived at the scene at 2:38 P.M. Drew added, the suspect was unloading and putting bullet into his gun when CSU police approached him.

There was a foot chase, shots went off and the suspect was hit. It is unclear how many shots were fired."

Stacey Jackson: Witnesses say CSU police shot unarmed man

According to attorney Stacey Jackson, a spokesman for the Flint family, three witnesses said Flint was running away when he was shot.

"The three witnesses that I spoke to said Mr. Flint was running away, and he didn’t have any type of weapon in either of his hands while running," Jackson said Sunday night.

Authorities haven't named the officer or said how many times Flint was shot. But Jackson said Flint's parents told him their son was shot twice, though they weren't allowed to see his body.

"They asked to see their son at the hospital, but authorities would not let them see their son," Jackson said.

"But they did talk to some medical personnel that described his injuries to him. One shot hit in the back with an exit wound on the stomach. Another shot to the neck-head area where the lower part of the head meets the lower part of your neck. The bullet went through his mouth and may have even broken his jaw."

This is my stepson that was killed. Please be respectful. His family and mine are going through right now. He was not a bad kid. Im sure he ran because black children are taught from an early age the police are not your friend. He knew he would be arrested just for being there.

Gunman on Campus Shot, Wounded by CSU Police

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- A male non-student seen loading a gun near student apartments on the Columbus State University campus was shot and wounded by CSU Police officers Sunday afternoon.

No one else was injured.

As is common practice throughout Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

A CSU Police dispatcher got a call reporting the presence of the person with a gun in Courtyard 1 student apartments at 2:35 p.m. Officers were dispatched immediately, arriving and confronting the suspect at 2:38 p.m. After a brief footchase, the suspect turned to face officers, and shots were fired.

The suspect was transported by ambulance to The Medical Center at 3:15 p.m.

"This is a terrible tragedy," CSU President Tim Mescon said. "We will cooperate fully with the investigation by GBI. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in this, as well as their families."

CSU Police Chief Rus Drew said officers later confirmed the shooter was not at student at Columbus State.
