Commercial Flight Collides with Helicopter Over Potomac

I know you guys will be heart broken to learn that of all the things I'm an expert on.. air traffic control and piloting aircrafts are not one of them so I will be offering no retarded opinions on this one.

But I'm pretty sure Iran was involved.
Dichotomy of your statement is glaring….!

If the standard flight paths allow helicopters to cross airport plane landing flight paths at or near the same altitude as the landing planes then the standard flight paths should be changed.
There will always be slow movers crossing your arrival and departure routes for legitimate reasons. It's up to ATC to properly sequence and separate aircraft. That doesn't mean that it wasn't pilot error and they were in the wrong place, and due to it being dark, ATC couldn't see that due to all of the ambient lighting. Not enough information to know yet.

Turns out, you're 100% right

Tower was in contact with bold the chopper and the jet, tower told the chopper to go behind the jet. I would have to say that the chopper pilots had night vison on and got blinded by the landing lights. We will see what happens after the investigations. SAD

If that's the case, I guess it would be easy for the helo pilot to mis-identify the jet to fly behind, and put himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, moving at a couple hundred knots.
