Considering RV rental for Grand Canyon Trip. School me…….

Do it! Make some memories with your family and/or friends.
My fuel rule is 1/3 tank = empty. Fill up often and don't stretch it. Same goes for freshwater tank.
Dump that ****ter and gray water often too.
You don't want it full when having to use either one. Bring box of rubber gloves for tank dumping duties and I always have plenty of chlorox wipes and anti bacterial wipes on hand.
If the rental has an onboard generator even better as you can boondock and avoid expensive RV Parks.
Expect and be prepared for snow in late November at higher elevations and some areas will not even be open due to snow.

My brother owns a huge RV, Cummings diesel powered I think. He attends football games all over the country, I have no idea how much he spends in fuel (a lot) but it is a fun way to travel.

We did it 12 years ago. Went in in-laws diesel RV w/pull behind. Sights were incredible but in the end I’d rather not spend so much time driving -setting up & breaking down…. Put it this way- that was the 1st and last RV trip…… I’d vote fly- rental car…… just my opinion….

My Wife did the RV thing with the family growing up. Well it was a travel trailer then. Her parents later bought an RV. They'd been all over the country and into Canada. We did the camper trailer. I loved it. My Wife quit because of the work involved. Back then fuel prices and camp sites were a lot less money and made better sense traveling that way. Nowadays, you'll pay as much for a good campsite as a good hotel room. My way to travel is with diesel power. It'll save money on fuel and you don't have to stop as often to fill up. In you're case, it probably won't matter because of the Wife and kid wanting to stop. Going out West requires a lot of driving. I hope y'all have a lot of fun

I spent the time last year doing the math but did not make a spreadsheet so I will give the cliff notes. Don't remember the site but there are people that rent their RV,S kind of like Air b&b. I was to fly into Phoenix and had 2 days car rental in the budget, getting ready. Most sites you want to stay as well as hotels book a year out or more, There is that< but when I looked at everything , Rental , campsites, food, fuel and on and on it was close to the same price for my wife and I to rent Tahoe and stay at hotels. The cost of Milage and Fuel from Atlanta out and back was offset by the initial outfitting of the initial buy in of a Walmart trip for needed supplies and the airfare. The cost of campsites fuel and millage etc it was around 10% more to go hotels. That was for 2 of us so if you are doing a family there would be savings there.
