If it takes hold in India and Africa the mortality rates will be greatly increased due to lack of hospitals/medical/doctors.

Also, if the numbesr get so large that hospitals are overwhelmed, the numbers will sky rocket.

Agree..... So far I only see 1 case in India, but also one in both Nepal and Sri Lanka.... If gets loose in these countries, we are in trouble.

OK... Update at 3 PM... First time we have shown more Recoveries than Deaths.... Hope it is a turn...

You're looking at a map that overly represents a **** hole communist country where this thing started. It's not an accurate representation of how people will fare in other parts of the world.

They can't help but have higher mortality because the health system is over whelmed and the city is cut off from the rest of the country. I feel sorry for those folks...

What I find interesting is the global response to what is an otherwise mundane virus when compared to others like the flu.

Are you saying you think our normal flu is more concerning than the corona virus or am I misunderstanding you?

In case I'm not I'll put this from the CDC here for you.......

CDC estimates that influenza has resulted in between 9 million – 45 million illnesses, between 140,000 – 810,000 hospitalizations and between 12,000 – 61,000 deaths annually since 2010.

When you compare that to a flu virus we have no antiviral or vaccine for that has a 2 week asymptomatic contagious incubation period, an r0 of 2.5 and a mortality rate of 3% and you do the math correctly I believe the difference is obvious.

I got my own conspiracy theories. But in this case I'm still gonna live life as normal because let's face it we dont live in densely populated area that are dirty, people walk around China with masks on just cause before this was a thing.

Do I believe this is a thing for Asia, sure. Will it be bad here? No. The steps of quarantine travelers and possibly infected people is showing many were NOT carriers. In my personal opinion there is a greater chance at civil unrest due to politics than this virus effecting our every day lives in the United states.

I agree that this is not cause for panic. It is cause for keeping a close eye on it and basic preparation because basic preparation is so easy with such little impact that it's a no brainer. An extra couple hundred bucks of food you'll eventually eat anyway and some n95 masks is so simple it's ridiculous not to.
