Somebody please explain to me why the death rate percentage is based on how many have contracted to virus instead of on how many have recovered from the virus. How is this a 2-3 % death toll ?

Look at these numbers above... 426 deaths on 19922 Cases...That is 2.1%...

But, of the 19922 cases, only final outcomes of 1049 are determined..(426 died and 623 recovered). That leaves 18,873 still sick... And may either die of recover...

And that is assuming these numbers are accurate
WHO, CDC, and others are reporting the data. It would be unlikely that it's being collected first hand in China. That means that they're using the data China provides. I doubt that we'll ever have the real numbers from China.

This is Roger Seheult, MD. I watched it earlier today. The numbers are a few hours old, but he's putting out good information. Lot's of links, too.

Oh, and just to freak everyone out a little more, he mentions that the smell of diarrhea containing aerosolized particles of the virus can spread the disease, like it did in the SARS outbreak. A guy in Washington state had coronovirus in his stool.

NIH doctor says 25% of coronavirus cases in China are ‘very serious,’ requiring ‘intensive care’

That percentage will overwhelm every country's healthcare system in short order if it takes off.

DHS announced today -- as proclaimed on CNBC -- that they reserve the right to turn flights around in mid-air if they find out any of the passengers has been in China (not just Wuhan) in the last 2 weeks.

Essentially shutting off an entire country plus a bunch of those who made connecting flights.

They say there is a huge backlog of people with symptoms who have not yet been tested and that the infection number is more tied to their rate of testing. There are estimates that as many as 1 million people in China may be infected.

The Chinese Communist government is lying and suppressing the numbers, so no one really knows the death rate, serious complication rate, or even the rate at which it spreads.

Understood
Still, my argument is that the only numbers that matter when determining the mortality rate are

426 died and 623 recovered

as you said, the rest are undetermined.
So in a total of 1049 patients that have contacted coronavirus and have run its course the death rate at this point is about 43% !!
please tell me Im wrong, I WANT TO BE WRONG.

All the bs with every new illness is laughable. The flu and other common illnesses have been thinning the heard since the beginning of time. It will only kill off the least healthy. There is nothing new or alarming about that. I write this as I sit here feeling like death. I was diagnosed with the flu today and I plan on kicking it’s ass!!

624 is not the total number of patients that have run the course of the disease. You have to also add in those with mild to no symptoms , those who stayed home and self medicated, and those that were worse but not needing hospital care.

How many times have you had flu in your life? Were you hospitalized each time? Ever?
