Corporate Job and Beards?

<<<Engineer that works for a big corp. I rock a beard and sometimes I let it get down to about my chest. Zero ****s given. If people can come into my workplace wearing getups that look like they just left an Atlanta strip club, BRIGHT RED dyed hair, exposed tattoos, nose rings, eye brow rings, tongue rings, gauged ear lobes I should be able to wear something on my face that occurs naturally. And yes, everything I mentioned I've seen in my workplace at one point or another. I'm not judging if you do this, but I shouldn't have to alter my appearance to fit a "corporate engineer" mold either.

In my last job it was two fold. It was a restaurant company so there were sanitary concerns.
I always questioned that. What makes a beard hair more likely to fall out than a moustache hair? But yeah, I did know about that.

Second, the issue had come up for debate at the board level, and it was going back and forth until one person mentioned that NFL refs weren't allowed to have facial hair because studies show a perception of aggressiveness with beards. CEO made his mind up right there. I was very happy to leave this company.
Beards = aggression? Weird....someone should have told me that. I'd have blamed so much more on my facial hair than I ever did on my intemperate disposition.

I drive a truck. Long a** beard and even longer hair. no ****s given!

I just recently shaved it all. I still can't get used to the feeling...
Not because of work though.

Ask your immediate supervisor - no other opinion matters, unless you are independently wealthy, i.e. don't need to work. (From an octogenarian)

I'm a corporate GM with 166 employees. I have never had to reprimand an employee with a beard as well kept as yours. I would grow one but mine's 57 colors in 10 directions.

It depends on your client audience. But the whole package is more important than one part. Do your customers get the idea that you put in effort to look your best?

I have been working in techical areas of corporate world and government IT for the past ten years with non-typical facial hair, but when I visit clients I put in the effort to look good, and it is appreciated.

Why do you work for someone when you are one of the most skilled blademakers in the state?
