I loaded some 250grain .45 cast bullets over 4.0 grains and 4.5 grains of HP38 in .45 AutoRim cases to fire out of an old Webley Mk VI.
I did not crimp them.
I was expecting the FPS to be around 600 for the 4.0 grain loads and closer to 700 FPS for the 4.5 loads based on what I'd found in my research.
The 4.0 grain loads (loaded and fired six rounds) chronied out at between 285 and 315 FPS.
The 4.5 grain loads (loaded and fired two rounds) chronied out at about 385 FPS for both.
I don't want to go over 700 FPS for this pistol as I need to keep the pressures down.
Anybody have any thoughts or experience? How much higher could I expect the FPS to go if I crimp the rounds?
