Dawson Forest nuclear reactor site.

I live 5 mins away from the forest. We hike regularly all over both sides of the Etowah. It is simply facinating! I can meetup with anyone who wants a nickel tour.

Also, look carefully at that goggle map... See outline of the circular fence that's centered around the reactor site? It is more noticeable to the west of the reactor.

I was there right after they abondoned the site and actually drove motocross bikes thru the undergound tunnel complex, at least the parts that weren't flooded when they blew a hole by the river to allow the river water to flood, it just didn't flood everything so they bulldozed a few months later the entrance shut. Hunted there for 40 years and never seen anything other than abondoned buildings piles of lab equipment, etc. Took gieger counter up 15 yrs ago and never got over 3 millrengen on the meter. anything less than 5 is safe for the general public.
Oddest thing I ever saw was during hunting season was 2 mexicans in a single man, tree stand hunting during reg rifle season with a muzzle loader, the fools climbed a tree not 20 yards from the one I was in before daylight, needless to say, I "politely" sent them packing when I asked for the hunting license and green cards. They thought I was LEO I guess, or the sight of the AR10 I had in hand was enough.

Bingo !!!!! Don Pardo tell him what he wins!!!!! Thats what im thinking. What is so odd is some of the old folks around there get a little creeped out if you ask them about it. The Old guy I talked to said "he and his faimly were told they need to keep there mouths shut about it ,or else." thats strange? when I ask by who? he said "Im gonna stop there, probly said too much already" and then he kinda laughed. again strange.
HE told me this took place in the late 60s. I wont say where he lives to it, but you could say very close.

Not for nothin' but if I lived near a place like that and didn't want tourists stomping around in the woods, I'd probably say much the same thing.

Back in the 80's I use to camp all over n. ga. in wma's never would camp in dawson forest. How hard to pump out the water then explore? In the video it was clear so probably not from a river it would stir up silt?

Tried to get in there this past weekend with son-in-law but the area around the laboratory site was blocked off. White vans with "University of Missouri Biology" on the side were parked on one of the entrance roads.
First thing I've ever seen out of the ordinary there. Looked, but couldn't find anything in the local papers about it.
