Desert Tech MDRX .308? Anyone have one?

I'm looking for a compact .308 to hog hunt with, and I came across a deal on a Desert Tech MDRX, I can pick one up for $1600 new in either 16 or 20".

Seems like a deal for something with a $2600 MSRP, but is it any good? I have several 5.56 bullpups, a Tavor, AUG, HS VHS-1 (Hellion), but I'd like a 308 to hang a can on and knock some piggies.

This Desert Tech seems cool, but I can't find a lot of reviews on the MDRX in .308, what do y'all think about them?

Never shot the tavor 7. A lot more versatility with the mdrx. I hate the standard tavor.

Hate the aug as well. Lol.

Im not a bullpup guy in general. I had a very specific set of wants for a particular setup, so I went with what I thought was the best platform. In this case, it was the mdrx.

I have no qualms with my gen 1 mdr. 556 is just cheaper to shoot so the 308 doesn't get used much

I had an early Gen 1 MDR and it was a real PITA. Had to send it back because it wouldn't cycle anything but a few types of commercial ammo. Desert Tech did fix it and it was able to cycle the Swiss 308 I have a ton of OK afterwards.

That quick change forward-ejection port always gave me problems though. It would jam up fairly randomly causing feed issues. I believe the newer guns (MDRX) got rid of that though and went with a more traditional side-eject system.

The MDRs have a lot of cool features, but I had no intention of ever using things like the caliber conversion, so they were wasted on me.

I ended up selling mine and getting the Tavor 7 instead. I think the MDR was a 'better' gun in a lot of ways, but the Tavor ran like a champ right out of the box, which is what I was looking for.

The Tavor is chunkier, heavier (I think) and definitely not as ergonomic as the DTs are, but it's built pretty solidly and functions flawlessly.

On the flip side the new MDRX is simplified and seems to have shed a lot of the parts that gave the Gen 1 a spotty reputation.

I can't find the allure of bull pups either but the concept seems logical. Just that big bulky stock is to clunky looking. I would be real sure if what you are getting for that money. I believe I would have to add 400 and get the LMT AR-10 or Noveske 6mm ARC. However, if that's what tickles your fancy go for it. If you're spending that kind of money to get what you want. 👍 I did see a couple of YouTube videos about them. You might watch them at least.

Like I said, I had a very specific list of needs/wants. It fills that hole. I have quality ar's and other platforms. I also have the mdrx set-up for specific use. I don't need to watch videos. I have one. I shoot it. Ive shot others.
