Discipline or too extreme??

Well, we can be damned sure that whatever problems the kid was having will not get fixed now. This is BS. I applaud that father for trying to save his son. As for the kid not having any water and being unsafe, note that the article says that when LE saw the kid a second time and in the middle of the night, the father was WITH the kid.

Because of interference with this father, that kid may very well be screwed for life, rather than learning discipline and becoming a good human being. This is another example of the *****fication of America

One Giant Va J J!! It's disgusting that everyone is worried about everyone else.....when typically their own life is all jacked up. I agree with you. The dad had the right idea

Sounds reasonable to me, I saw a parent spank their on kid in our store today, another lady said she was going to call the cops for child abuse.....the mom barely popped the kid on the butt......I wanted to jump on that lady talking about calling the cops.

Yup. Not abuse.....if the dad said "we are training for football". Nobody would have said anything.
Probably right besides the fact that he's 4 feet tall. I think that's what surprised me most about this. His height. I'm sure that's why people thought it looked do bad. If would have been 6'3 it would be different. He wouldn't look like an 8 year old

Heard about it on the radio, didn't read it. Depending on the kid, 25lbs might be a bit much. What shape is he in? No water is retarded. If a cop called him out, and the cop's boss agreed, maybe they spotted some kind of distress in the kid. Just because dad was in the military doesn't mean he knew what he was doing.
My son did quite a few 5-10 mile practice hikes with a 50lb pack in preparation for a big Boy Scout trip a few years back, but he was in high school at the time.

The thing that no one seems to realize is that it is not anybody's business what this father was trying to impress upon his child with this punishment. All accounts say that the kid was a little $&it. A few miles with a weight is nothing. Now the LEO's have gotten involved and exacerbated the situation by calling in DFACS. I guess we are supposed to feel grateful because they didn't shoot him (sarcasm, but I'm ranting right now). What the hell has society become? The world is reversed. Being perverted is celebrated and having morals is ridiculed. That father thought HIS child needed to learn a much needed lesson! The cops in my day would have offered my dad a ride and a drink after. Nobody's frikkin business! Discipline is not abuse.
