Given the current news cycle, family member just called me freaking out about an EMP, worried about communication.
Just got me curious how many really have/use one. If so was it DIY or commercially produced? What do you have in it?
What good would it do when 99% of all communications are dead?

I’d suggest getting a pre-ban radio. More people worldwide use them still to this day and if comms go out it’ll be your best bet. Not only can you maintain comms with family/friends that have one, you can also get news from individuals worldwide.

Most faraday boxes sold commercial are not only a waste of money but a waste of space.

After reading Dr. Bradley's book on EMPs, I built a Faraday cage using a 30-gallon steel trashcan with a sufficient seal for the lid. I've also purchased several of his EMP phone pouches and his EMP car and generator protection products. He doesn't just sell products but he tests each one in his engineering/physics lab to ensure that they can provide adequate protection. He makes videos showing how much of an electromagnetic pulse each product can withstand. Or in the case of cell phone pouches, how the metal fabric pouch will stop the phone from receiving signals.

We don't have one yet. I asked the wife last night about using one of the foam lined night vision cans we have leftover. But I also need some decent hand held radios to go in there.
