I’m putting this on hold for a minute now that I see I’ll need a different dimmer switch.

Pretty sure those whites should be tied together there. Ate you on the feed end or the fixture end of that run?

Dimmer is on the fixture end of the run.

Yes, but current dimmer is only 5-8 years old, & was rewired by FIL, so I’m not sure if it was done correctly to begin with.

If I were helping out here, I'd want to see the other switch's wiring. This looks jacked up. I'd think the white wires (neutrals) should be tied together. The solo black (on right romex) tied to the dimmers black and the red & black (travellers, on the left romex) tied to the dimmers two reds. Just advisement on how I'd do it.

Got it sorted out. It was 2 pole setup. Ran to Lowe’s, grabbed a 2 pole dimmer switch, watched the manufacturer’s video, hooked it right up.
