EmDrive May Generate Warp-Like Field, NASA Engineers Discover

More than just gravity can vary the speed of light. Light traveling through a substance will slow down, the index of refraction. Water has an index of 1.33 while crown glass that of 1.53. Now, in water, electrons will move faster than light. The given speed of light if for light in a vacuum. Space, while thought of as a vacuum, it isn't. It contains particles that will interact with light, slowing it down. However, this is such a minuscule scale, it's hardly worth noting for this discussion.

As for gravity, it's not a "man-made" at all. It's one of the 4 fundamental interactions, and it is similar to, or you can look at it as being related to, magnetism. However, electromagnetism is quite a bit stronger than gravity, like 10^36. The difference is, gravity works on all particles having mass. Does light have mass? No, well, yes. Light has photons, and photons have energy and according to Einstein, E = mc2.

Anyway, I digress. Microwaves and Light (visible light) are both in the Electromagnetic spectrum. Microwaves have a longer wavelength and longer frequency thus they have less energy. Being able to harness them into a viable form of thrust would be very interesting indeed.
