EV's are NOT America's future!

Living in an area where there's a lot of people with more money than sense, I've recently seen cybertrucks, a white one, a black one, and a couple of natural stainless ones.
Still only the one Rivian, though.

I'm pretty sure no one who bought a Cybertruck or Rivian said "Dang, I really wanted a Toyota Tundra, but with that tax incentive I just couldn't say no; I just HAD to buy the $100,000 electric truck."

The cheapest EV I could find, the 2024 Nissan Leaf, is currently around $28,000, and the 2024 Nissan Versa is $19,200. $11,200 more. So a $7,500 tax credit isn't going to offset the cost.

And of course, I just have to ask: are many of us dumbmasses since that Mortgate Interest Credit fooled us into buying houses?

And again, and this is important: The money is YOURS, not the government's. So when they give a tax credit, tax refund, or lower taxes, it's not a "bribe". It is returning money that is YOURS to begin with. We could call it a "reduction in protection money", or "reduction in theft", but not a "bribe".

And why are you so worked up about fellow Americans paying less in taxes?
You laced your comment with plenty of irrelevant outlier examples, but failed to effectively dispute my claim that tax credit incentives are actually bribes intended to manipulate consumer buying habits.

Dude, if I can't give you the prices of the two cheapest EVs and ICEs to compare to prove that a $7500 tax credit is FAR less than the price difference then I don't know what to do.

So, I'll concede the argument: Tax credits for EVs are CLEARLY bribes, because they give you back some of your money. But the only evil ones are CLEARLY for EVs; I mean, tax credits for buying a home are good. Tax credits for having kids: Good. Tax credits for EVs, less than the cost difference between them and an ICE car: EVIL.

But, nevertheless, EVs are America's future.

No, the reason that tax credits for EVs are a bribe is because government policy is deliberately distorting the market to 'nudge' individuals to purchase a good from one set of manufacturers at the expense of others. This 'nudge' achieves two things. It influences the purchaser, and it also incentivizes manufacturers to behave in specific, governmentally approved ways.

It's a reverse 'sin tax'. People are being economically advantaged when they make the "right" decision at the expense of the arrogant peons who refuse to do so and continue to make "bad" decisions.
