Two rules of thought on that. Wide for floatation and narrow to dig down for traction. Somewhere in between. Best tires for off road I ever saw were AG tractor tires on a truck. The other was a ole set of Co-ops. The in the middle for me is BFG All Terrain.Saw a fella stick a F150 in a pond once. That's what happens when you're spending grandma's money, I guess.
I feel like the heavier truck needs a wider tire to float the extra weight.
So then you have the traction. Now you need the weight, torque and a good drive train to run it. That's where the heavy drivetrain comes in from a heavy duty truck. It'll take a lot of abuse
