Father shoots 17 year old daughters BF in her bed. She told dad she didn't know him.

None of us were there but I would think if some one were in her room that was a total stranger trying to rape her or some thing that she would be flipping out and screaming for help. Not waiting till her father came in the room to say I don't know who he is daddy. It is a messed up situation on all parts.

Women get raped without making a sound on a regular basis. When some crazy MF has a gun to your head or a knife at your throat and says "Be quiet", most people do exactly what they're told.

Fight or flight? Few if any average Joes will ever pass that test. Sad outcome caused by poor choices. Let's not forget how the Dad must feel after killing an otherwise innocent 17 year old kid.
The dad was taken away by ambulance. I have no doubt it was stress/grief related.

There is more going on in this instance than an "intruder" and all the big talk is BS. I've had people burst into my apartment door (many years ago) but I assessed the situation and determined that they were drunks fighting in the first instance and a neighbor, again drunk in the second. They weren't threatening me, I was holding an AK47 in my hands when the fighting drunks busted my door in, but I didn't go FULL RETARD and start blasting, that's stupid. I told them to get the F*** OUT now and they did, right after they pissed their pants. If they'd started towards me, THEN I'd start blasting. The neighbor I took home and sat him on his couch. I didn't have to get arrested, go to court, spend a fortune defending myself just because I wanted to "defend the perimeter" going full retard Rambo and killing everything in sight. I used some judgement and assessed the situations BEFORE I even considered shooting. I'm glad I did.

What gun and what knife? The report said nothing about a gun or a knife. Or a threat.

Maybe taken a second and assessed the situation fully?

It sounds like that is exactly what he tried to do, but the first thing that has to happen is to get control of what could be a VERY dangerous situation. Thus the "Don't move", then the strange man in his daughter's room at 2:45am that she is saying she does not know...moves anyway. BOOM!

And you handled that situation correctly. It also has NOTHING to do with what this father was confronted with.
