What's your favorite place to get AWESOME BBQ. Don't tell me at home, that doesn't help me. I make good BBQ at home too. I travel much of the state for work and am always looking for great BBQ. So far my favorites are.

#1 Bigguns BBQ - Talking Rock GA. I look for things to trade with Furious just so I can meet him there.

#2 Big Bears BBQ --- Rome GA. Hometown and all that. Great food, huge portions, cheap prices

#3 Crazy Rons BBQ --Stone Mountain Ga. First really good BBQ I tried after moving to GA back in 1999.

I tried Pappy Reds in Atlanta. I had high hopes for it with the plane in the roof and all that. I was not impressed. Honestly, it was crap. Maybe it was just an off day.

I used to like Slopes BBQ back in the day in Alpharetta, but that was back in 99. Since moving back here, they seem to be everywhere, and the BBQ does not seem to be that great.

Old Hickory House Canton and Tucker....bbq from the 70's anyway you want it...owned and operated by the original family made with all the original recipes.
Williamson Brois and Jd's aren't bad either but they aren't Old Hickory House.

Pippins BBQ in Mcdonough. Not sure where they are at, my step dad picks it up for me when I go down to help them out.
They have really good brunswick stew also!

I quit buying BBQ when Melear's in Fairburn went out of business. Before that my Dad made the best BBQ I ever tasted, made his own sauce too. Dang if he didn't take his recipe to the grave with him.......

#1- sprayberry's newnan. but im a bit bias, my great great grandparents opened it. so ive been eating all my life. the mac and cheese and fried peach pies were a regular sunday dinner item for me growing up.

#2- north ga bbq helen. good meat with a lot of smoke which i love. and they know how make some stew.

#3- johnny's bbq gainesville. good meat and nice sauces.

worst independant joints:

#1- big als bbq pit statham. that was the worst ive ever had. just by taste you can tell the butts are set on a grill for just long enough to pick up that grill flavor then oven finnished. the ribs are boiled then finished in an oven. they have no smoke/grill taste at all. when asked how he cooked his ribs he told me he smoked them for 10-12 hours, which is bull. they do have the best baked beans ive ever had though. kinda sad the best thing they serve at a bbq joint is the beans.

#2- smoking po boys winder. the meat has nice smoke and is fairly moist, but they seemed to use absolutly no seasonings of any kind on it. salt included. the sauces were nothing worth using to try to salvage the meal either. and the stew, man, thats some horrible stuff. texture? think campbells chunky. flavor? think horrible veg soup with horrible bbq sauce dumped in.

#3- robingson's monroe. driest meat ive ever tasted. mainly due to the fact the meat looks to have been chopped in a food processor.

#4- fresh air bogart. the meat was lack luster at best. sauces not that great. and the stew was another batch of bbq veg soup.
