Yes sir. First coat of tru oil was 50/50 mix of tru oil and turpentine. It’s thinner and also adds a reddish color to it. From here on it will be all straight tru oil. The desired result is a reddish brown color with the contrasting grain. This is another stock I did the same way. Provides kind of a unique color. Obviously the overall result is going to vary from one piece of wood to another.

I got ya. That one looks awesome as well! I like the red. The only experience I have with refinishing stocks is using tru oil. I didn't thin it out the first time I used it and it was a serious pain to work with. The second time I realized that thinning it out was the ticket. I don't remember what I used to thin it out but it wasn't turpentine. I wish I had known that, I would have liked to had some red in the tint.

You won’t want to use the turp/tru oil combo in the house. It smell is super strong.
