Flint River

Made the trip on Wednesday. We put in at the Mt. Carmel Rd public boat ramp (White Oak Creek) and got out at Flat Shoals. As suggested earlier in this thread, I parked on the side of the road opposite of the subdivision and had no problems.

The river was full, but it was obvious it had been about a foot higher very recently judging by the wilted and discolored leaves along the banks.

Trip took 3.5 hours. Put in at 1pm and got out at 4:30pm. Took longer than I was anticipating as we had made the Sprewell Bluff to Hwy 36 trip in 1.5 hours last time and it is only a little bit shorter distance. We didn't dally. Not sure why it took longer, maybe the water was flowing slower here...

Literally no rapids to speak of. The kids were incredibly disappointed...!

At the current water level, it looks like a good trip for a kids first kayak solo.

Photo is looking up river from where we got out at Flat Shoals. 10 and 12 year olds wanted to try out the kayaks while we waited for the car retrieval from Mt. Carmel.

I thought I would pop back in and say that my buddy and I did this float today in his canoe. We had a good time and will probably do it again at some point. I was surprised by the lack of current in the river and we paddled a lot of the way, stopping to fish a few times. I guess we were paddling pretty good as we did the trip in two hours, give or take a few minutes.
