Foreign Weapons and Obscure Builds

1) Looks like a brand new AK-- packing material.
2) To keep the heat off your hands
3) Bore cleaning patches.
4) Could be a combination of the above.

Never seen packing in a new AK but ive never had a chicom bakelite model.
Seems like that will make the piston and gas tube overheat and possibly the barrel

It is a common practice around the world to wrap, stuff or modify hand guards to be able to hold an AK without gloves.

I'm guessing good gloves are more expensive than an AK in certain parts of the world 😒

<----- will trade a six pack of gloves for a decent AK!

Re Foreign Weapons and Obscure Builds. Hope this qualifies. My Dutch Franken-carbine AR10

I've been building this gun off and on for some time, I wanted to see how many parts I could make or alter to use instead of the incredibly hard to find originals. I made the handguards, grip and a 607 style stock, charging handle, reprofiled an Armalite stainless Walther-Lothar barrel and bcg, made a gas tube, handguard retaining cap., mag catch, a drop in trigger group and modified DPMS mag. I included an earlier pic with a hand made fixed stock.

Very very cool. Should the selector turn that way?

Interesting you should ask. The first ARs had a selector that when pointing left its on Auto, safe was up and pointing right was semi. During development is was hypothesized that if you are dragging the rifle in a low crawl the selector could get accidentally set to the auto position, this is how the current positions of today evolved.

Aha. I figured there was a reason but I didn't know what it was and it left me scratching my head lol...thank you for the explanation!
