Idk what I know don't know, but you are correct. Back when I raced motorcycles, one of the concerns was fork springs "sagging out" and shrinking down from all the compression. Cheapest way to fix that was to throw the spring on a hard surface a couple times and it would fix the problem.
Edit: do not throw your drum on the ground. That's bad.
