Forest fires by a Ted Nugent

"There are more deer in Georgia now than there has been for a century and they are frigging everywhere."

Got any stats to back that up?

Yes we do check some of the data from years past one WMas (WARWOMAN BLUE RIDGE COHUTTA ) back in late 80s deer kill data compared to now. Better yet go take a hike thru some of these areas that have been put into Wilderness tell me how much deer sign u see or any other wildlife. (Ruffed grouse for one they gone) Y have to have Timber cutting to have a healthy Forest for all the critters that use it .

Kill data only means there were more people hunting, not more deer,Murray county has plenty of Grouse ya just need to find them, they are thinning out tho I think more have headed to the Carolinas due to the hot summers here lately.Regarding the tree cutting I agree it needs to be done but only when necessary, not just to put money in some politcos pocket. The mismanagement of Ga. forest in the very late 1800's thru the 1930-40's were responsible for the extreme misuse of our forests as most were decimated to a point that the gov't had to step in to create National Forests, like Chattahoochee-Oconee and others,Without that we would have very little. It has taken that 70-80 yrs to get out growth of decent timber back in our forest

Yep. I can't find anything that goes back 100 years, but it is historical fact that the population had been destroyed by market hunting and a program to reintroduce deer in Georgia had to be undertaken.

These records go back to 1972. There are now over a million more deer in Georgia than at that time.

http://www.deerfriendly.com/deer/georgia

"An estimated population of 1.27 million deer in 2016."

Deer
Year Population
1972 253,000
1982 540,000
1992 1,211,000
1998 1,352,000
2000 1,269,000
2005 910,000
2010 970,000
2012 990,000
2014 1,000,000

So in other words you don't know whether there were 2-3-4 million deer in Ga by the turn of the century or not based on ESTIMATES, just taken over the past 40 yrs,now I get it, your correct, smh

Just out of curiosity do you have any idea of what Market Hunting is?,Just so you'll know it when a Butcher sells livestock, farm animals or animals killed in the wild in a market type industry,Hunters actually made a living in the late 1800's and early 1900's in this county putting meat on folks table that was less expensive than cattle, swine and even chicken in case's that fed a lot of poorer folks during the depression eras.If you really think we never had a larger population than we currently do your sadly misinformed and need to understand our heritage and where we came from in this nation. We weren't all givin a silver spoon at birth. My family was dirt poor livin in the Carolina mountains near Asheville in the late 40's- 50's I remember hunting deer as a child for food for the table as a weekly thing, now not so much:)

back in the 50's you were lucky to see a deer track in N Ga.so no there were not 2, 3 0r 4 million deer in Ga at any time, ever.

If you had read the link I posted before, you would already know this:

"At the beginning of the 19th century deer were hunted to near extinction, with a few local herds remaining.[History] The first restocking began in 1927. By 1937, the herd was estimated at about 12,500, the result of unregulated hunting."

To answer your question, yes I do know what market hunting is. I'm not arguing the economic value of it, but it is the primary cause of deer in Georgia being basically gone in the early 1900s.

The U.S.F.S. is not regulated by the EPA,The are and entirely separate entity when it come to regulating our forest. They have in the past shown concerns on water runoff from bad forestry practices, but mainly focus on our air/water quality.

Global Warming is fo sho a real thing, heres a link to the latest Nation Climate Threat released today,do try to keep up folks:)

Ecosystems and the benefits they provide to society are being altered by climate change, and these impacts are projected to continue. Without substantial and sustained reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions, transformative impacts on some ecosystems will occur; some coral reef and sea ice ecosystems are already experiencing such transformational changes.

Re: The hunting practices have more to do with the increase in our deer population that anything else, rapidly growing citys, deforestration due to growth force our deer into tightly managed areas, then you also have the fact that the numer of permits issued for hunting have dwindled significantly over the past 30-50 yrs.I applaude our hunters, they do far more than they realize.Personally I think they should get insurance discounts and free hunting tags
Yeah the USFS is another over paid Bureacy within its self to many chiefs not enough indians. PLUS THEY ALL FOR PUTTING ALL THE LAND THEY CAN IN WILDERNESS THEY WAY THEY DON,T HAVE DO ANYTHING WHICH THEY PRETTY MUCH HAVE IN NORTH GA AND ALOT WILDLIFES SPECIES WITHIN THESE AREAS OF WILDERNESS HAVE DECLINED DO TO LACK OF DIVERSITY WITHIN THE FOREST BASICALLY BECOMING A TREE MUSEUM

Do you guys even think about what your typing,Deer just like the buffalo were hunted to almost extnction.Buffalo used to actually roam here in Ga as well,They also were hunted to almost extinction from herds numbering in the 500 million range,Deer just like the buffalo having been hunted to near extinction here in Ga and probably elsewhere in the south also more than likely numbered in the hundreds of thousands if not millions even.Use those noodles gang your not thinking about what your typing.Your trying to correlate current numbers to make a point that you make claims about deer never having large numbers without proof or anything other than 40 yr old recordsYet you have no discerning info/numbers regarding them being hunted to extinction with regards to how large their numbers were. The Cherokee I'm pretty sure hunted them a lot and they were in fact good stewards of the land before the whites settled into the south after immigrating here from England,Spain and other countries
.
I'll agree since they were apparently hunted down to about 12K or so it is doubful they could even make a full recovery in 120 yrs,but they have because of the DNR and the USFS designating land for them to live in and be protected from overhunting, much like they were apparently back in the late 1800's and early 1900's
