FT only ???

i have thought about doing that as well! hahaha

I actually have done it......once. Guy was trading an 1895 45/70 that was built in the way back machine. Wanted a mini-14 for it. One of the cops I was working with at the time had a mini he was trying to sell to buy and AR. Gave him 350 for the mini, and swapped the mini for the 1895 30 minutes later.

I never understood this until a few months ago.

There are a couple of reasons you only want to trade:

You could end up getting something better in trade than you could have bought with cash

Sometimes cash can have a tendency to be spent between the sale and the purchase.

You honestly don't know what you want, so you see what gets offered. It is actually really exciting seeing what gets offered.

And you would be very surprised at the success rate of finding what you want.

x2 I traded a mosin 91/30 rifle and a nagant pistol for a sks in mint cond. all matching numbers w/ bayonet. and a 30 round mag. + the guy gave me $20.00 cash. now i could never bought that gun for what my two guns were worth, but I had something he wanted and he had what I wanted so we traded.

I'll reiterate one more time. If you're getting rid of a gun to get another gun, a trade usually works out better.

If I have a Glock 19 and I want a Glock 23 (pretty much exact same value), I could sell my Glock 19 at the used market value, and then go to my shop and buy a new 23. There is no way I got enough money to cover the 23 brand new, and even if I did, I'm still gonna get hit with sales tax (or shipping/transfer fees for online buys). Or alternatively I could sit around and check the classifieds everyday until a 23 pops up at a decent price and buy it. But during that time I will be without a gun (well I wouldn't be, but some people might), and something could come up and my gun money might become car or house repair money.

Or I could let my G19 sit out there until someone wants to trade me a G23 for it. Simple and easy.

this is why. want a better example?

with FT only ads, I traded an'84 ford pickup that needed a lot of work for an WSAR ak with tapco furniture. Then traded it for a kimber compact II with crimson trace grips. Then traded that for an '89 bayliner ski boat. The boat for an '07 Honda trx 400ex sport quad that was an absolute beast. The Honda for an '09 Kawasaki ninja 250. And the ninja for a 98 Suzuki gsxr 750 SRAD edition . That ended the trading. I sold the gsxr.

I started with a old beater pickup worth maybe $300, and ended with selling the gsxr for $3400 AND a $400 pistol as partial trade on it. only reason for selling the gsxr was i knew i'd end up hurt on it. I had tons of fun with every item in between. Id say I did well, and i dont think anyone would argue with that statment.

you never know what kind of new toys someone will offer.
