g42 preferred carry over g43?

I have both, and found that when I first got the 43 it was uncomfortable to shoot. The trigger was a bit sharp on the end and wore a blister on my finger. I took a file to it and smoothed it out a bit, now I don't have a problem any more. The 43 has more recoil, and to all who say the .380 is under powered, I will pay money to see you stand in front of one and take a hit. :p

I would not feel adequately prepared to stop a violent attack conceal carrying a no. 2 pencil. However, I will not stand in front of someone and have em stab me with it. The .380 is considered inferior to other defensive calibers like 9, 40, 45 In ppenetration and overall performance. Still I do not want to stand in front of someone and have em shoot me. Heck, I dont wanna do that with a high powered pellet gun, but still would not choose a pellet gun for a defensive weapon. Not comparing a .380 to a pencil or a pellet gun, those are superior in ballistics haha just kidding but just making the point that it is considered inferior by many in the firearm training community. Still it is better than nothing, or a pencil or pellet gun :D

Got a 42 a couple of months ago.....didn't want one but for $300 cash why not. While I don't have a 43 I do have a Shield which is comparable in size and weight.

The 42 is truly a pocket gun and very easy to carry. Currently run it in a Desantis Nemesis. Carry two spare mags because they are small as well. The gun is easy to shoot and recoil is soaked up well compared to the Kel Tec P3AT I had a few years ago which would make my hand bleed at the range.

.380 is a marginal caliber but I accept that as a trade off. I full expect that I may have to run the gun dry to get the desired effect. I also carry two spare mags.

I currently run old school Federal Hydra Shoks. They didn't do quite as well as the Precision One/Fiocchi XTP loadings in the Ammoquest test but it's easy to find and still a solid performer in those tests.

$300? I'll take one too please : )

Love the 42. Not so small that you cant grip it right the first time and point it in the right direction.
Really accurate and easy to shoot also very easy to conceal.
Hope I never need it.
I would dare to guess those knocking the .380 cartridge have not shot an attacker with one or been shot by one loaded with good defensive ammo but are probably relying on the internet for info and picking what they want from the info available. I would also dare to say most of those sources they are quoting have not been shot or shot an attacker with a .380 but are regurgitated "I heard or I saw" accounts. The .380 aint exactly a bb gun.

Actually, I think most are making an informed decision based on the multitude of videos of ballistic gel testing results for the .380. I'll take what I can get when needed personally. FYI, yesterday's bad guy on 75 took 9 rounds of .40 and still stayed alive for 4 hours afterwards.

I've seen videos and actual cadaver results showing that the .556 is inferior to the .40 handgun round and they had an actual suspect that had been shot by both but ultimately died from the .40 rounds. It ended up ended up being about shot placement. The .556 rounds were through a car door and entered the body through the thigh hip area but the .40 rounds were center mass. Not a stretch to figure how things went from there.

See what I mean?

Here is a cool article with actual real world human gunshot effectiveness data by caliber. Considering my likelihood of finding myself in a gunfight, the Glock 42 sounds like a good choice to me. The 43 is also tougher for many people to accurately shoot than a 42. It is. Looking at the data from a 380 to a shot gun, most bad guys stop being a threat after one shot. Now if I were a soldier kicking in a door in Iraq looking for an ISIS Fighter I would make a different choice. But I'm not.

Great article. 12 ga shotgun won. .380 is a decent round. I still say any a hole that breaks In Your house you have shot will be dead soon or is heading back out from whence they came. Quickly. But bleeding.
