GA AR-15 manufacture

Hasn't it all been done before?
Every conceivable variation of every part on the platform has been "improved" by countless current and previous manufacturers. Which is why most of them barely run out of the box. Pick your super tacticool, lighter, stronger, better than the other companies obviously inferior junk part and slap it on. Then buy more parts to make it work the way it used to......Brilliant!

This is a blanket statement to ALL companies dealing with the AR platform.
For the love of all thats holy please stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
Hmm, with that logic/mindset, they should have just stopped "innovating" with the original Stoner design, stopped advancing automobile ingenuity, no more new droid or iPhone models, cancel any plans for streamlined production at manufacturing facilities, never move away from current Mac or Microsoft operating systems, etc....

As long as devices have failures, there will always be room for innovation.

Companies that are not very well established just get lost in the shadows when they do this. Sure, some can ride their heritage (Colt) who only recently offered mid-length has systems, but new companies need SOMETHING. If not innovation, then excellent value in goods or services readily available by hundreds of other sources.

To the law enforcement angle, I'd be very interested to know what exactly that means for STD. I have a really difficult time believing that LE would have much interest in outfitting its officers with a $1600 billet 3-gun rifle that lacks both a dust cover and forward assist. But I've been wrong before.

We do manufacture rifles with forged receivers. We purchase these in a x% finished state and complete the machining on these. Nearly every other part of the rifle is manufactured here and these are obviously sold at a lower price point than the billet series. Our pricing for LE is discounted depending on quantity and whether or not we are to do "department specific" engraving on the receivers. To the best of my knowledge, no department is after full billet rifles.

Over gassing typically rears it's head in short barrels OR when a suppressor is introduced. I'm curious how well these guns run suppressed with full power 5.56 NATO ammunition?

Interestingly enough, we had one of our (Billet) 5.56 rifles come in today because the customer wanted us to put his adapter on for his suppressor. We got to go through a few mags with him. Over-gassed. Ejection was between 1:30 - 2:30. Just an FYI. We do make an adjustable gas block and we will be working on finding and establishing a table for proper settings for different possible scenarios going forward.

Bingo. This is why I asked about port sizes. Please accept this as constructive criticism. Too many manufacturers are building guns for the lowest common denominator, instead of making guns based on a higher standard criteria. The standard should be based on compatibility with suppressors, full auto reliability, with "duty" ammo. Building a gun based on the idea that it should run any ammo (primarily steel) is a recipe for an overgassed consumer grade rifle.

Now, with that being said, if your customer was running a standard carbine buffer, his gun was simply not set up correctly for suppressed shooting.

ETA: adjustable gas blocks are the current rage. But it is my opinion that if you need one to get reliable function, then it's a barrel / gas port problem and all you're doing is putting a band aid on the issue. Build the gun correctly, so it isn't needed in the first place.

Why? 07 is the the FFL you need to manufacture. Dobbs, Dogleg, and Quiet Riot are all 07s.
Yeah, yeah. I had assumed he would have mentioned being a Class 2 SOT. But since he didn't, I assumed he didn't have it. But I guess I should have assumed he did given that they are tooling up for supressors it sounds like.

Maybe that didn't come across the way I thought it would.

Im all for advancing the current platform and even revisiting previously failed products or concepts with a new technology or alternative materials. Pmags are a perfect example.
What makes no sense is when the product is nothing more than a combination of "better ideas" that just dont work well or even work at all combined.
