Gander Mountain readying for bankruptcy...

I hate to be harsh on a retailer but dang. I looked at the same used guns, week after week, month after month, year after year, at the same store in Valdosta. You'd think a clue would be the only time they moved stock was when they laid the rifles and shotguns out on the 50% table once every two years.

Maybe bass pro will follow them.
I am guessing they are not too far behind. They have over developed in this mail order market. There is no way they can sustain all the recent store openings on top of what they have already done. On the other hand, I do see some diversity in their retail operations. Like the hotel they are opening in Memphis and when they bought my friends business, World Wide Sportsman. Only time will tell.

Never been in a Gander mountain store, but I have been to both Cabela's and bass pro. They are both real nice stores with lots of stuff but I've never heard anybody bragging about what a great deal they got there unless it was on close out and it was the last stop before it went in the dumpster. I don't really wanna see them go under but it would be nice if they would trim enough fat to be competitive every once in a while.

Bass Pro and Cabelas will last, you need stores like them for the "last minute before season opens stuff" plus they offer more of a variety than Gander

Prices are way high but during the .22 shortages they always had a secret supply. If you asked the guys in McDonough they would go in the back area and and come out with a brick. Got to give props to the local guys!!!

Nobody was buying $500 police trade ins or $500 Bersa Thunders? Shocker! Only been there once the salesman told me if I bought a gun I could bring it there for professional cleaning anytime, I tried not to laugh.

I wish I had a dollar for every scope that was 'mounted' at Gander Mountain (or any other box store) that I've had to remount and boresight (I don't use a boresighter, old school or periscope). Rarely takes more than 3 rounds to get on target at 50 yards.
