Garand Food

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought modern ammo in a Garand was bad for the op rod (you risk bending it...), unless it was specifically loaded for the Garand.

Wrong powder can increase port pressure, and put too much force on the op rod.

M2 ball spec ammo isn't a max loading for 30-06, but it is the burn rate that is important for the Garand.

Alleycat,
I have HXP, US made M2 Ball, Netherlands M2 Ball, some other unidentified stuff, one clip of black tip are all the same size length, or within a mil or so.

Nothing that has the size differiential you are seeing.

Gotcha, thanks for the adf'l facts. I obviously have a bad lot of surplus rounds... But accordng to the diagram above it's still within spec. So strange, This is a first for me.

I don't suppose the Greek military will take it back either. Lol....

is there a chance the the bullets are driven down into the casing?
I know that its not a good idea to tamp down rounds to even up in an enbloc (look at old M1 stocks with little indention's)

I just measured some of my HXP with calipers and it was 3.3".
