This was in father-in-law’s estate, with a verified 1914 Luger with original holster and an old appraisal letter. But I know there are way more replicas of these than real one so im reaching out to the collective think tank.

Supper cool, thanks.Original SA dagger
He has had it for a very long time and he was a smart man and definitely doesn’t have any reproductions or fakes that I know of. So it leads me to believe it’s real but I just don’t have the in-depth knowledge on these things like some other people have. I appreciate the inputIt looks "right" to me. ( that doesn't mean much BTW) if your FIL, acquired this in the 70's there is a pretty good chance that it might be real. The problem is that all of the orginal makers are still in Europe, and still have the orginal machines and dies, that were used in the 1940's. As this stuff started to demand premium prices, they took to remaking this stuff, selling it as orginal, found in a lost warehouse, etc. etc. It might sound weird, but sometimes if you pick it up, and look at it, it just feels "right" , and you have the sense that it's a real wartime production piece. Just my 2 cents.
Most all new production or replica daggers are SS marked the OP's dagger is a earlier SA dagger or "brown shirts" dagger that pre dates the later SS marked oneOriginal SA dagger
