Is it ok to put graphite lubricant on the slide and rails for a semi auto? If not, what can I put on that is more durable than just oil?

I would think that if graphite was ok the military would use it in desert conditions and they don't, so maybe not a good idea?

Here's what I lube my slides on my pistols with. A little bit goes a long way. I use it on my AMT Hardballer Longslide and haven't seen any signs of galling so I think it works well.

It would seem that graphite in a fluid base would be an excellent lubricant for guns. However, since this does not exist, or at least is not in wide use, there is probably a reason why. Not sure what that would be.
