Gun for the Wife...

In my ladies classes the most popular choices are :
Ruger LC9
Ruger LCP
Ruger LCR
Kahr CW9
Glock 19
Ruger SR9
S&W M&Pc
Bersa .380
...and a few more.
Don't make the mistake a lot of men do & buy one for her.
A man can no more pick a gun for a woman than he can pick out a pair of shoes for her.
Help her sure, but it has to fit her hand. If she winds up not liking it , she won't shoot it enough to be proficient w/ it.
If a .380 is all that she'll carry then so be it. The first rule of a gunfight is to have one.
The problem I see firsthand all the time is the little guns are so small women have a hard time manipulating the controls from cycling the slide to pressing the trigger. Ultimately that is up to them to find out.
Some don't understand a gun is not a "lucky rabbits foot" or "magic charm"... it is a tool to do a job.
Many think any gun will do & want the smallest one possible and depending on what role they want to use it for it may or may not be the right one for the job.
One that fits their hand well is critical.

Of at all possible, take her to a range that will let her try several.
In my classes I call it,"The goldilocks gun"... just like the fairy tale, not too big, not too small... just right.

Sights are an issue.... I took her to the range with my then DB 380 and she could not see the sights worth a darn. I am thinking she is going to need something with decent to good sights... Like my Sig 238. I dont want to give her the Sig as I would like to keep mine and gey her another one.

What is the intended purpose for the gun?
Self-defense, target practice, concealed carry.....which?

mostly self defense to leave on the night stand while I am traveling but needs to be able to put it in her purse without too much weight. I would give her one of my sub compact Glocks if it werent to big. She has small hands. Thats why I am leaning towards the 238 with night sights..... Just wanted to hear some other options/ideas/opinions

I have to add a vote for the LCR. My wife loves hers. No trigger to snag when pulling out of the purse. Smooth action. I put a big dot night sight on it and she is a terror from inside of 30 feet.

My old lady has a Bersa thunder 380. Its the only pistol she enjoyed shooting so that's the one I bought her. For Valentine's day I got her some pink laminate grips for it.

Unless she practices A LOT, she probably wouldn't't remember to push the thumb safety off in a stressful situation.
If that's what she is going to use then she needs to work that safety over & over & over till it becomes instinctive. Most women don't want to put that much work into it which is why the revolvers are so popular.
