Had a run in with a bear

I carry a P38 on my keychain, I'm thinking that would be my weapon of choice. ;)

That'll put too much weight on your ignition switch.

I lived for 20 years in AK. My hiking companion was a Taurus Raging Bull in 454 Casull. 12ga shotty with Brenneke slugs was a second choice, good, but not as handy. Either one would put an Alaskan bear down, let alone a southeast bear.
Do not shoot at the front of bear head, their skull is severely sloped and bullet will ricochet.

PS and yes I've run into bears and moose plenty of time. Never had to shoot them. Too much DNR paperwork :D.

  1. My best friend I graduated High School with kind of followed us around until we landed here in Ga. He lives in Big Canoe with his wife of 20 some odd years and he stepped out of his garage one morning and looked to the right and saw a huge bear. He said it looked massive. He kind of froze and then looked to the left to look for a way out and he saw her cub. He is standing between the sow and her cub. The thing you are never suppose to do so you always here. She just looked at him and he slowly backed up and to the door and shut the garage. He said he literally **** his pants. LOL He said each bear was no more than six feet from him. I don't know what I would have done but seeing he has seen other bears in his yard or wooded lot and a mountain lion he said he is definitely going to start looking out the windows more often before going outside. You have to know this guy to get the true value of the humor. The first time I took him trout fishing he landed a 6 pounder out of a mud hole in Fighting Town Creek. This guy gets into the most outrageous situations all the time. Just born for the super natural.

How come everyone in GA is scared of a black bears and in Russia they just ride down the road on bikes and nobody says anything
I went looking for a Siberian tiger when I was 12 years, armed only with a firecraker. Being Russian had nothing to do with it. Young and stupid.....

BTW I found it. Never ran on the snow so fast in my life before.

A 12 year old boy out ran a tiger in the snow? Sounds legit.
There is more to the story, as always. I was downwind, following the oversized cat prints on the forrest road. It was used in winter, so snow was not too bad. Slippery, but soft enough to leave a print. Fortunately for me and my buddy, tiger had a couple of village dogs to eat the night before (and left a trail for us to follow), so he was not hungry and was not actively stalking us.
When the stupidity of what we were doing dawned on us and when we "thought" we saw stripped fir in the trees way away from us, we turned and ran.
