Had my debit card info stolen

You do realize the government is communist and most of the people probably would choose something different? Not to mention the person could have been charging from anywhere.
You're right. Just like our government is a Democratic Republic but it seems most have chosen Socialism. My sincerest apologies to all the non-Communist Chinese credit card thieves out there .... :)

Maybe some people here need to enjoy the working conditions over there for a couple years to truly appreciate what we got.

I don't think it would help. The WILLFULLY ignorant will not be educated. There were more than enough "man on the street" interviews after the election to paint as clear a picture of our unavoidable future as could be.

Well I didn't get my money back instantly like you guys did. My bank told me to contact all these companies and ask for a refund basically because it was a fraud and now I have to wait for them all to get back to me. It seems this might not go in my favor. but the bank did say if the companies don't cooperate they will go into legal action to get my funds back.

They are playing b/s hardball. Tell that bank that you know Federal Regulation E states that the bank must provide provisional credit within 10 days of your notifying them of the disputed transaction(s). They may ask you to provide a written request. Do so...a signed & dated letter stating you didnt make the transactions (include date and amount) will work, or they may have their own form to fill out.. The bank is under burden of proof to provide evidence that you either made the transactions or did not-and banks dont have the time or money to prove anything. You (all of us) are federally protected by Reg E...not the bank. They have to try to recover the funds via chargbacks that take place through the Card Network provider ie. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AMex. If they do not recover the money they eat it. This is one of my areas of responsibility. Any questions, let me know.

I know lot of folks don't like BOA or Bank of America but I wasn't asked to sign or call anyone. it was back bout as fast as it was taken.
I have a buddy who uses BB&T and he loves them. after you get this straightened out I would be moving my funds elsewhere.

Crappy bank man. SunTrust called me late one Friday, almost didn't answer it, thankfully did. They saw a charge for $350 at Kroger in Smyrna. Apparently it was out of the norm since I live in paulding county ( I do work and make lots of fast food purchases in Smyrna). They credited the money right then, cancelled and sent me a new card and emailed a form to fill out saying it was fraudulent. I never did anything other than the form. They did the rest. I'll keep my big bank for now.

I'll add this: every time you swipe a card it has a chance of being compromised. Criminals are constantly trying to hack in to merchant (TJ Maxx, Kroger, basically everywhere) databases to steal the transaction records/card numbers/ect. They also try to hack into the processor networks. Sometime they are successful and copy the information. It then can be bought and sold globally or scanned onto a new card. Just one example: http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygre...nts-reported-compromised-in-processor-breach/

There are also "skimmers." Its a small device that simply reads the mag stripe on the card and saves the data. These are most commonly planted on the front of an ATM or gas pump. Some are even handheld by the sever in your restaurant! As they walk away to the register (out of sight) they swipe your card and steal the info to create a new one later...or compile lots of card info to sell or hand over to the fraudster boss for later distribution.

The eastern european fraud gangs are really good at this. I once had someone spend $200 of my money in a bar in Russia! It happens all the time everyday.

All banks are obligated to take care of you.

I use my debit card at ATMs only ever since the time my debit card info was stolen. If a credit card is stolen then I have less access to credit on that account (though I don't believe in paying interest so I never have much of a balance). If a debit card is stolen then there is no legal obligation for them to immediately give you YOUR money back. If you're smart and have savings and an emergency savings account (which is obviously not linked to your debit card account) then you will manage, but it's still a pain. If you aren't in a position to do that (like many people in America) then the money for your bills which you had is gone until the federal time limit is reached or your financial institution decides to give you your money back. That's not a good position to be in.
