Handguns for owners under 21.

This is interesting because I'm about to move frommPeach Co down to around Darien GA and my 20 year old daughter is staying here. This is an old Forestry office in a rural area. So she's asking me what gun I'm gonna leave for her. I would really prefer her to go and buy her own 20 gauge pump. She wants me to leave one of my cheap RG snubs. But I would really rather her have something of her own with her own name on the paperwork.

What kind of relationship issues do you have if you're even questioning whether you'll leave your daughter a gun? I would leave mine any gun she wanted without a second thought.

Well its one of those situations where I love her cause she's my youngun and I'm supposed to. But as a person I don't like her very much. She didn't grow up with me and is spoiled lazy and entitled. Plus when she turned 18 she gained access to about $60K from her mom's life insurance. And she has pissed most of it away on stupid ****. So I kinda see it as she could have already bought a gun if she really wanted one. She's way better off ( or was) financially than me. But I know I'll wind up being the one to provide one corner anyway. Anybody got a Hi Point?

21 is the national minimum age to buy handguns, or handgun ammo, from a store. An FFL holding dealership.
There is no federal or state law against 18-20 year olds buying handguns from private party individuals.
Or being given guns, or lent the use of a gun long-term.
Congress intended that federal gun laws not prevent parents and guardians from arming teenagers with guns, even handguns.

Now if the teenager is crazy, an addict, a gang member, suicidal or homicidal, that's different.

P.S. I would NOT
Give an irresponsible 19 or 20 year old a handgun.
Especially if her concern is home defense, and a long gun would fill that role nicely.
I'd suggest that SHE pick out and inexpensive pump shotgun and that you then buy it for her as a gift .

I'm 19 but not irresponsible. Heck, I probably won't even shoot my Beretta until I turn 21.

Probably.

I mean I want to, but no gun range allows people under 21 to shoot handguns without supervision. I have no family here in Ga and none if any friends over 21.
