Hartwell dam trout

I think what FrogHunter FrogHunter is referring to is stocking Lake Russell below Harwell Dam.

I've tried to get the same information. And I haven't received any info that I consider 100% reliable. I don't know why it's such a big secret.

First, it's not clear that Georgia is still stocking trout there. They announced several years ago that it wasn't going to do so, then without any announcement they started limited restockings.

Here's is what I've heard "through the grapevine" and I'm not vouching for it.

Story No.1 -Georgia stocks Russell on sporadic basis based on available fish. There are circumstances (so it has been said) when the hatcheries have too many fish, and they go into Russell. That's why it is not on the stocking schedule.

Story No. 2 - South Carolina stocks the Hartwell Tailwaters (a/k/a Lake Russell headwaters) and so Georgia doesn't bother. See page 17 here. http://www.dnr.sc.gov/fish/pdf/TroutBook.pdf
