Headed to Grass Range MT tomorrow

Good luck. Like elk but if you can make mule deer taste good you are doing something. I guess it’s an acquired taste!

The mule deer doe was delicious. I cubed the backstrap, and pan fried it in butter with garlic, sale, and pepper. Added it to a bean dish.

Elk is still the best game meat I’ve eaten.

I miss Montana. Awesome country and thanks for posting the pics. It sounds like you had a great trip.

Couple of questions... what's the deal with the multiple red circle looking marks (I'm assuming blood) around the doe in post 12 and do you know the name of the mountain that looks like Stone Mountain in the 3rd pic on post 14?

After being hit, she spun.

IIRC, it was Button Butte.

I've had a little elk, it was good. Buffalo as well, taste good. But you'll chew and chew trying to cut it with your teeth to swallow. Mule, no way. Didn't care for it at all. White tail deer is good

Elk’s my favorite. The mule deer doe was excellent. I much prefer the whitetail I get in Ohio to the ones I get in Georgia. The ones in the area I hunt in Ohio feed primarily on corn and soy beans, whereas the Georgia deer I get primarily eat wild. Big difference in the taste.

Yes I remember. Lots of snow in pics. Do you remember the temps last year? If you don't mind, could you give me an idea what a trip like that cost? PM me if you wish

Our third day was a long day, and it snowed all day. By the time we got our 3 elk gutted and hung in the barn, it was 8 degrees.

If I go back this February, I’m sure it’ll be cold and white.

Sounds great. It's been a long time since I've been in cold weather like that. That part would be tough. That and all the walking. I'm not crippled, just significantly worn

I hate the cold, but it doesn’t bother me out there. It feels much different. It’s like a dry cold, if that makes any sense. 8 degrees in Montana and I’m fine. 30 degrees in SE Ohio and I’m miserable.

We put in a lot of miles.

Yea, when I was a kid we were visiting out in the desert. It was 120 degrees. It was a dry heat........It felt like 80 degrees here at the time. Well I was out there several years ago, it was just plain hot!!! Funny how that works......
