Help with sbr rules

Once again, just my understanding: the Shockwave skirts the rules because it never came with a stock and hence is classified as a “firearm” and not a “shotgun”. A shotgun according to the ATF has a stock and a barrel longer than 18 inches. You can’t change your firearms classification without a tax stamp.

Just to be safe, I wouldn’t cut it shorter than 18 inches or else the ATF may snipe your wife.
this guy gets it!

And also again if I put a pistol brace or take the brace off an ar it’s perfectly fine why is it different here if I don’t have a brace
An AR is the same way. If the receiver was originally built as a rifle you can't just chop the barrel to whatever you want and throw a brace on it.

Everything is determined by the serial number on the receiver.

If you bought a factory AR-15 rifle and put a short barrel and pistol brace on it you would be breaking the NFA laws same as with the shotgun (only difference is 16" for rifle 18" for shotgun)

If you buy a virgin receiver that's never had a barrel on it then the choice is yours to build a pistol or rifle or something else.

Was the receiver on the shotgun you're talking about originally built at the manufacturer with a stock and sold as a shotgun? If the answer is yes you can't go under 18" without a stamp or violating 90 year old NFA laws.

Honestly I don’t want to wait that long and pay an extra 200 dollars on something I won’t spend much more than that on and how do yall quote so good

It’s still going to be classified as a shotgun because that’s what it was when it was originally made.
If you want to be legal shorten the barrel to between 17 and 20” and don’t alter the stock to keep your overall length legal.
No, this is partially correct. The barrel needs to be 18"+ and the OAL needs to be 26"+. It wouldn't be an SBR, it would be SBS (short barrel shotgun) if you pay for the stamp, get it back, then cut it.
If You're talking about a shotgun that was originally sold as a shotgun with a stock and everything (like 99.99% of shotguns are) then the magic number is 18".

Your barrel can't be less then 18" without a stamp or violating NFA laws There's no tricks or loopholes around it.
You can as long as your OAL is over 26" and it was sold as a "FIREARM", so it never had a stock. This is how the shockwave does it. You used to be able to do this before they were mass produced by buying a Pistol grip only 12 gauge, then cutting the barrel, but the birds head grip helps length and the regular vert grips don't.
How is a shockwave legal than the barrel is 14.5 in and that’s more less what I want but I want a single shot and shorter
pay the $200 ATF extorsion fee and get the stamp, then engrave and cut it.

It's how I turned a $180 870 into a $500 870 I shoot less than I did before.
