Henry County plans property tax hike; hearings NOT Wednesday, It's Thursday the 20th

You gonna go jack em up ?

Just heard the Hero of Henry who was the first to stand out and said no to hiring the proposed new county school super intendant had to have armed guards to protect him from angry people...

I suppose when you expose the new potential hire as the former assistant super intendant for Atlanta Public Schools who "allegedly" told the terminated teacher who exposed the largest cheating scandal in our nation that she should have done what she was told and she was insubordinate-leading to her firing then investigation, the guy who has moved positions every year for the past 5-6 years, who wants a million dollars might upset some folks...

And today speaking with a Henry County teacher (rumor?) claims one of the 146 changes to the contract he made included removing the morality clause, so if caught doing something immoral-like cheating? he could not be fired.

I suppose that would upset a few folks to violence. Too bad the two BOE members deserving of attention have not gotten it from the complicit omitting press.

How do you upset a Leftist Liberal Socialist?

If given the opportunity I will simply tell them the truth.

So the meeting occurred last night beginning 6:30 pm sharp with Ms. June Wood leading as the speaker Parliamentary Procedure beginning with invoking prayer then the pledge of allegiance.

June Wood attracted a bunch of money during her recent campaign, I had read >$75K some out of state money for a position that pays $8-9K annually (unable to locate that "news" on the web): http://www.henryherald.com/news/run...cle_66bce42c-2d6d-5cb0-9eab-7d287e3aaab5.html

An assistant to the commissioners then began the county financial briefing with identifying an anticipated upcoming tax collection shortfall. Within her introduction she mentions the words "fiscal responsibility".

She and another lament how the county workers must drive vehicles with 200K miles. (I'll just say most of the county/city vehicles I see look new/nearly new with a rare older vehicle occasionally seen. I have two vehicles that have about 200K miles and no plans to swap them out yet).

After an immeasurable amount of suffering through the "assistants" briefings only discussing day to day ops and cost beak down by day, by millage percent and a fleeting mention of "other cost" (the ones they don't want to talk about). The board wanted the public to understand that this 1 mil increase was what the assistants to the board proposed, not the board's decision...

The board also wanted the public to be clear the the Board of Education (BOE) is separate from the County Commissioners. The BOE absorbs over 60% of tax collected from homeowners.

I find it interesting when the commissioner's approved the FY 2018 unbalanced budget they initially claimed the extra $6.6 million from the county’s fund balance to balance the upcoming year’s budget: http://www.henryherald.com/news/cou...cle_5f4a90af-d196-5a5f-be19-76f84b481b42.html

This was necessary due to Georgia law forbidding any municipality/county passing an unbalanced budget. The citizens in attendance cried foul and "claimed" the commissioners would just raise taxes to balance it instead.

Huh, go figure?

So onward to public comments when the floor was given to the public by Ms. Wood; several grey/white haired men in the front row got up to speak as well as several women.

The first gentleman nailed it out the gate. Others hammered the board and made their points:

Sell off property that is losing money and costing the taxpayers:
*the Golf course
*the airport (When Clayton owned it, at a loss of >$200K/year)
*Water Authority excessive salaries (2 mil just for them), they claim needed for a water bond, but he claimed the bond he pays for has expired but they still collect for the expired bond.
*5 Henry County Principles were fired? And entertained that the previous superintendent was "allowed to retire". News to me... Knew we were looking for a new super but not why.
*An upset former head county chairman (Larry Mori/Moary?-Albany who had commissioners jailed), claimed when he took charge they were over budget but within months his team balanced the budget and didn't raise property taxes for his tenure for 4 years. He offered his assistance to teach the board how to balance a budget and not raise taxes to the cheers of the crowd.
*It was brought up that one man's home property taxes in one year increased $34K. He's a retired realtor and claims, as many others do that the tax assessor's claims and actual value differ significantly. This is not an uncommon theme in Henry County.
*"Enhancements" for a dog park... This should be the first thing dropped before the county raises taxes... A damn dog park, really?

There were other issues brought up but these seemed most applicable to increasing the legalized theft from the citizens of Henry county.

I doubt they will increase the millage rate after observing a filled room of angry citizens who want to see who votes for it. One chairman publicly stated he would not vote for a millage rate increase.

Don Henderson, hold on to your shorts the assessors office made a mistake and your property just increased enough, with the rest of us, to cover the +$6 Million dollar deficit... :whip:

Its the newest craze! All the "liberal super broke cities" have one, or several!

I wish I could sell my home at the price they value it as I'd have doubled my $ from when I bought it 6 yrs ago.

We did get a new senior center built in Hampton that just opened up. I liked the idea of it going up they need a safe spot to get out of the house meet n greet some like minded people too.

The school system has me worried bad scores plumitting principles leaving and gang activity climbing at an astounding rate. My son is pleading with me to relocate it's really bad he says.

The word is Henry county has approved a large amount of low income housing, instead of one house per acre, 4 houses per acre they have permitted large plots to accommodate multiple dwellings which one resident pointed out this is what links the HCBOC and the BOE as both play a part on supply verses demand.

We had to take our daughter out of Austin Roads and use school of choice to transfer her to Woodlawn Middle. It was clear the school was on a downward spiral.

Use school of choice and apply early, there are no buses so you will be responsible for transportation.
