I was there when the USS Enterprise Flat top came in. We were warned that only so many were let out for R&R. Also flew out of Clark as far as the San Miguel's they gave me the squirts until I got accustom to them. People here have no idea of what true poverty is until you go outside the Base. When the fleet would pull into Subic we would go up to Angeles City to get away from the insanity. There were some great bars up there like the Nipa Hut and some right outside of checkpoint Charlie we'd go to. Nothing like grabbing a few San Miquels, getting a special Jeepney and driving through the "zig zags" (mountains and rice patties) to Clark. Aahhhhh the good old days...until the Marco revolution started.

Agree point meaning that the people here in the US have no idea what real poverty is. Maybe if they did the would learn to appreciate what they have..And the opportunities to better themselves.I spent a year in Africa. The poor parts of asia do not compare. Asians are smart and thrifty. They can easily make poor not seem so poor.

Ain't that the truth!
The USMC Scout/Sniper Association, who can be justifiably considered the subject matter experts in such things, has judged that I did not earn the MOS and do not rate the title.
I will cease claiming myself as such. I will leave that honor to the Marines who have received the proper, recognized training and have been acknowledged as such.
