Here we go: 9mm vs. .45 ACP

.45

I was looking into this one time and after reading how the 9mm had been developed so much that it has caught up with the 45, it occurred to me that maybe someone had thought to develop the 45 as well...hmm

When someone tells you that thier 9mm expands to about a half inch, I like to tell them that my 45 STARTS OUT at about a half an inch and just get BIGGER.

I carry a Glock 30 with a 10 rd mag in the well and a 13 rd backup. Counting the one in the pipe that's 2 dozen shots. If it takes more'n that I shoulda stayed home. And if I AM home I got 8+1 in the mossberg 88 ready to back me up.

Practice is cheaper with the 9mm. Makes me happy I got a Glock 27 and the 9mm barrel. Shoot it a lot with chape Federal 9MM and then shoot a box of 45 to finess the difference(which really ain't all that much) in recoil/reaqusition.

I was at a friends house who hates the 9mm. Said it has no stopping power at all. So I suggested we have a controlled experiment. I told him I would set a bat on the ground and then walk 20 yards away. I would allow him to pick up the bat and come at me and I would shoot him until he felt like stopping. He did not take me up on the offer, so I guess it has pretty good stopping power if he did not even want to do it.

I am a fan of both rounds. I like the affordability of the 9mm, but I must admit all I have are 45's in the house. But BHJ has hit the nail on the head...

Just trying to stir the pot a little :p

With recent developments in the last decade or so in reliably expanding hollow point ammo it seems that 9mm may be the better choice. It's cheaper and at least as widely available as .45; has smaller, more concealable platforms and/or higher magazine capacity; has manageable recoil; and there are probably more weapons chambered for it. However, one thing I read somewhere occurs to me: A 9mm bullet may expand but a .45 won't shrink.

Personally, I wouldn't want to get shot with either. They will both do the job!!

I've used both when it counts and I'll take the .45 anyday and twice on Sunday. Shooting for fun is fun but when it comes to your life or your fellow soldiers you want a .45.
