Hog Hunting W/Thermal

Your link is not thermal - just Gen 1 NV. The cheapest thermal scope on the market right now is about $1,800.

I assume you're talking about just night vision?

I do not believe this is thermal.

OP I'm assuming you meant NV and not thermal.

If so your two cheapest/best options are the Armasight Vampire (regular NV) or the Sightmark Photon (digital NV). Both of those, combined with a good/cheap IR like the Evolva T38 or T50, will get you out to about 150 yards.

The downside is that both setups, combined with the IR, are going to be heavy. And these setups are best suited hunting over a fixed area, like bait or a field. With the IR you'll get bloom off of bushes, trees, etc., that will obscure the view if you're trying to hunt in dense areas. Also with the digital NV, you might get a quick screen flash with heavier calibers so sometimes follow-up shots can be difficult. I'd also recommend a flash suppressor with both because a large flash will obscure your vision as well.

If you meant thermal, let me know. Scopes will start out around $1,800 or a decent monocular will start around $1,500.

Thermal and cheap = lol

True but I've seen posts on other forums that retail on the new FLIR Q14 Boson Core, introduced at Shot, will be around $1,900. http://www.flir.com/ots/q14/

If true that'll be a game changer. Thermal ain't cheap, but it is getting cheapER with better specs.
