Home defense... with a twist

My second thought is to check her home for security issues. Does she have a security system and quality locks?

I worked for awhile with a guy who was a retired GA State Cop, he said one of the best defenses "at night" was a lock on your bedroom door. Nothing to keep the bad guy out forever, but enough to give you a few seconds warning of somebody was trying to get in the room.

Old women have trouble lifting heavy guns and holding them steady.
So, go with something mounted on a tripod.
Plus, if it uses 100+ round belts instead of 30 rd. box mags, that's a plus.

LET THE TRIPOD BEAR THE WEIGHT,
not the lady's arms.

1st I would like to apologize. I know this meme doesn't really apply to the granny gun subject but as far as "home defense with a twist....."

70 yr old ? No previous firearms experience ? Physical ability is the primary factor, along with the the amount of practice to become proficient.

Everyone who said start by going to a range and handling and firing and finding out what she likes is the first step are right.

I suspect a simple manual of arms, relatively light weight, and low recoil, will be popular.
