Honestly, who would buy a Ducati?

Why would anybody buy a ducati? I have an 1198 and a multistrada.

To me, my bikes are more about the sum of their parts. Ducatis fit my riding style more than any bike I have been on. I've had about 50 bikes over my 45 years on earth, since the early 80s. I've done track daysin 4 different states on gixxers, Hondas, kawis and ducatis. There is something intangible about the ducs that speak to me. But also the visceral feeling you get from the sound of the bike, the character, the look.

Are there bikes that are just as fast? yes, but 95% of the riders can't get the full potential out of their bikes anyway. Buying a bike is not a cerebral decision for all of us. People buy Harleys because of how they look, sound and feel not because of their performance. Much of the same applies to ducatis, except you get the performance too.

I also like riding something different. I get sick of seeing kids on i4s everywhere and like being a tad more original. Ive had a ton of i4s and love them too. In fact I wish I could have one of everything but the feel I get from twisting the throttle on my ducs is more of a right brain sensation than left. I enjoy the dealers as well. I've gone in an MV agusta/ducati shop and paid for the full price of the bike with a personal check. I have gone in, picked a helmet off the rack and rode a 1098 down the road with no escort. try that at a Honda or Suzuki dealer.
exactly and congrats on two Ducs there is something just as you say..you just have to ride it to understand !

I have had all the jap bikes and have had vintage/new as well as vintage and new Harleys but the Ducati has something different.. similar torque as the Buell but with more style and panache and just turns heads when you pull up on one!

There's old motorcycle riders, and there's bold motorcycle riders.
There are no old, bold, motorcycle riders.

It's dangerous... so is masturbating outdoors. If ya don't want to, don't. Been doing it for 50 years (65yo now)... motorcycle riding, that is.

Pay Attention.. it's that easy... yes, people pull out in front of you ALL the time... if you know that, you're ahead of the game.
guess its been a while since you been to a rally...OLD BOLD is all i see. Rode hard and put up wet kinda old and Bold

How bout just don't ride crazy?
You could Drive the minivan crazy and be just as likely to be killed.

Exactly. My 17 year old brother was killed in a SUV as a passenger on the way home from band camp in broad day light.

He wasn't wearing his seat belt.

So perhaps we shouldn't drive SUV's either.

The reality is that everything has a risk. However, there are a slew of choices that can be made to limit risks as much as possible (wearing all the gear, not riding/driving like a dumbass, wearing a seatbelt, etc etc).

Thanks- it's okay... It's been like 9 years. We were super duper close. The point is that he and the other passenger would have lived with their seat belts... The two with their seat belts on are still living. Of course he could have been hit by a mail truck the next day too. Never know.
true that! live like you want too you never know!

I am sorry for your loss.

You make agood point. It's allabout managing risk. I used to teach drivers training and motorcycle safety courses. On bikes, always look and be ready to react at intersections. Very vulnerable at that point.

Speed is fun but best left for the track where there is more control over hazards. No granny drivers, no deer, no loose gravel and not near as many surprises.
