Hope my fellow AK friends don't need ammo

Anyone with an importation license can continue to import Russian ammo for as long as the license is valid. This just stops anyone from getting a new one after the September deadline. Not to mention, a lot of steel case ammo is manufactured in Warsaw Pact countries not named Russia. We will be completely fine for the next 2 years or so, and by that time they will have ramped up production in other European countries to meet demand. If everyone could just understand that and stop panic buying which drives demand and prices up and creates a false shortage. I feel like we should have learned this with gas and toilet paper by now, but oh well.

Biden bans Russian made ammo and firearms to punish the Russians....but he signs off on their oil pipeline.:wacko::wacko::wacko:

This simply is not true, unfortunately. :( Each individual shipment of ammo from Russia must have its own ATF Form 6 permit. Individual shipment permits that have been previously approved prior to September will be allowed for import. After that, ALL permits will be denied. The permit approval process takes 4+ weeks, so effectively, from today on there will be no new approvals.

There are a lot of shipments that already have approved permits and have yet to be imported due to production constraints. We will continue to see those shipments arrive slowly over the next 12 months.

Most steel cased ammo on US soil is manufactured in Russia [not just 7.62]. Not all, but most. To suggest that this isn't going to cause some sort of supply and demand issue is silly in my opinion. Inevitably, the limited supply will cause upward price pressure not just on 7.62, but most other calibers as well.

Yeah, I hear ya on that and you may be right, but with the ammo shortage we've experienced, do you not think there are millions of rounds of steel case already ordered that have yet to be fulfilled? Not only that, do you not think Russians are smart enough to move their production to another country so they can continue to sell or that European manufacturers will not step in to fill the void? I think you grossly underestimate greed. Yes, we will be fine long term, and short term expect to pay as much per Round as 5.56. Add to that, there's plenty in stock still, your just going to pay a premium until people quit freaking out. Russia is not the only country on earth that can make steel ammo. It just did it for so long and had so much market share that companies couldn't compete.

I hope you're right. Candidly, I think we're both right to some degree and I expect reality to land somewhere right in the middle. 7.62 has been considerably cheaper than all other calibers post-pandemic. I'm not as concerned with that as much as I am with the increase that is likely to come on 9MM/556/300BLK as well.

Agreed, I think I read Russian ammo makes up 40% of the ammo market. .223, 9mm, .308, etc. This will have a much bigger impact on everyone outside the AK world.

If there is a hint of gas getting short, the prices rise. It happens in hours rather than weeks. And how long does it take for the prices to drop?

This will cause combloc ammo to go up, and stop the price reductions across the board for other calibers, IMHO.
