House was broken into, BOLO

But that's the way it is, you've got to be realistic and adapt to the environment.....Sometimes that means buying a safe or having an alarm system installed in the house with all that money you were saving for that next gun, so the collection you already have stay yours.

Every penny I spend on monitoring is money well spent. Buy a safe only and you'll wonder "I'm going to be gone for eight hours today. Is that enough time for the underprivileged yutes to break into my safe?" With an alarm system you'll know within 50 seconds or less when someone is inside your house if you have one of those new fangled sell phone thingies.

Both times my girlfriend set off our alarm accidentally the police were here within 2 minutes (embarrassing to be sure but I sleep/travel better with that knowledge).

Wow. What a tough lesson to learn. OP, I'm sure you see it now because of hindsight, but it should be a lesson to the rest of us. I had nice guns for years before buying a safe. Now, if I have a gun that isn't locked in the safe, it's with me.

Also, it's an argument I have about posting pics on a public forum about all the cool stuff you own. I tried a post about it some time back that quickly went south. If you selected a person at random on this site (myself included), it'd take 10 minutes to have a good idea of what they have in their collection based on their gun posts and questions. find one of their sales ad and you have a general location, watch the cars thread and you'd know what they drive, buy something cheap from them and have a little face to fact dialog and you could get an idea of where they live and when they work.

PERSEC is critical. I'm betting the perps had cased OP out for some time, either knew directly what he had, or had a clue from the gun cases that it was nice stuff. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they knew him on some level, maybe even live close enough to know his schedule very well, maybe have even been to his house.

OP- the broken window was the warning to keep the safe locked up 24/7.

It angers me that someone has scouted your house before and possible targeted you due to possible military affiliation.

I'm not going to lie - I used to stash my guns around the house in what I thought was really good spots until reading stuff on here. Now most are in a safe my wife only knows about or in a lake.
