As far as locking or not locking up guns...we've had that conversation before, many times.
Yes, in a perfect world you should be able to leave your belongings or valuables or guns on your property or in your vehicle without fear of theft. But we don't live in a perfect world and everyone here should be mature enough to agree on that, at least. (emphasis on should be)

When I lived in Chicago I removed all the bolts or firing pins from my firearms and normally stored them in two or more separate pieces. I'd also leave lying about one or more junk guns which didn't work and an old laptop in plain view hoping they would grab that and run.
